Hays Claims Top 10 Finish in USF2000 Debut at St. Petersburg
To begin his 2022 season campaign in the Road to Indy USF2000 Championship presented by Cooper Tire, Nicky and the Cape Motorsports team visited the street of St. Petersburg, Florida. Qualifying for Nicky was hindered by some electrical issues that prevented him from having any pace to put in a solid lap.
In Race 1, Nicky was able to move forward from the back before having a small incident at the end of the race that sent him back. For Race 2 he once again had to start from the back but battled all the way from 16th to 6th. He had to settle for an 8th place finish after mis-judging the second restart and lost out on a few positions. Nicky was happy to escape St. Pete with no damage and survive with a solid result. After the setbacks throughout the weekend he was glad to move on with a better and more comfortable feel for the car. Heading towards the next round at Barber Motorsports Park, he’s looking forward to taking this knowledge learned from this weekend and carrying it forward with some momentum after a top 10 finish in his debut weekend.
The next round of the Road to Indy USF2000 Championship presented by Cooper Tires visits Barber Motorsports Park from April 29th - May 1st. Stay up to date with Nicky’s efforts and catch all the action and live timing on USF2000.com.
