Two Podium Finishes for hays to conclude 2022 USF2000 season at Portland

The USF2000 Championship visited the Pacific Northwest for the finale of the 2022 season with a triple header weekend at the tight two mile circuit nestled in the outskirts of downtown Portland.

Qualifying went well placing his Cape Motorsports #5 in P5 to start the weekend. In race 1, Nicky jumped out to a great start avoiding carnage in the tricky festival chicane of turns 1 & 2. Nicky sneaked through and managed to get all the way up to 3rd place. As the race developed he faded back a bit after getting shuffled wide in Turn 7 losing multiple spots down the long back straight. He took home P8 with the expectation of getting better results in race 2 & 3.

After another great start in race 2 by avoiding more collisions, Nicky found himself in 3rd. He worked his way up to second and began chipping away at catching first as the race began to near the closing laps. Unfortunately, a caution flag flew slowing the field with a few laps remaining and the race finished under yellow. Although Nicky wanted to run out those last few laps, he was thrilled to claim a 2nd place finish and a trip up to the podium.

Race 3 was a wild one with lots of shuffling of position. Nicky once again started P5 and jostled in and out of the top 5 for most of the race. He and his Cape Motorsports teammate Michael d'Orlando worked together to get to the front. Nicky protected Michael at the end of the race to help him take the win and the Championship with Nicky coming home 2nd in the race and a visit to the podium for the second time of the weekend.

It was a consistent and well put together weekend for Nicky to roll into the 2023 season carrying some great momentum with him!
